Twitter said Monday it has agreed to sell itself to Elon Musk in a roughly $44 billion deal that has the potential to expand the billionaires business empire andput the worlds richest man in charge of one of the worlds most influential social networks.

特斯拉当日在twitter上则表示，期望该子公司能竭尽全力为现代人提供更多抒发相同意见建议的互联网平台。除此之外，特斯拉还则表示期望将twitter子公司的演算法展开申明（making the algorithms open source to increase trust），让文本所推荐和过滤的具体文本方法论更为制度化。

“Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated," Musk noted in Twitters statement announcing the deal.

Musk repeated his refrain that "free speech" is key to Twitters future. "I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter because that is what free speech means," he tweeted.

Though Musk has indicated that his primary interest in Twitter has to do with what he views as the company’s censorship of free speech, Musk critics are concerned that the billionaire’s control over the platform will result in the silencing of their voices and others with whom he may disagree, given that he’s often blocked critics from his personal account.

Still, some industry experts worry that Musks desire for free speech on Twitter could mean rolling back some of the platforms work to curb hate speech, misinformation, harassment and other harmful content.

While Twitter is smaller than some social media rivals, it has an outsized influence in the online and offline worlds because it is used by many politicians, public figures and journalists.

Others questioned whether Musk might restore former President Donald Trumps account, which was removed early last year for violating Twitter policies against inciting violence following the Capitol Riot. Such a move could have significant ramifications for the upcoming 2024 US presidential election.

Psaki, on Monday during the daily press briefing, was asked whether the White House was concerned that Musk’s purchase of Twitter could change Trump’s permanent suspension on the platform. "No matter who owns or runs Twitter, the president has long been concerned about the power of large social media platforms, the power they have over our everyday lives," Psaki said. "He’s long argued that tech platforms must be held accountable for the harms they cause."

"I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH," Trump told Fox News. "I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH."

The former president told Fox News Monday that he will formally join his own TRUTH Social over the next seven days, as planned.
